Position Title Software Test Engineer

Description The Information Technology department has an immediate opening for Software Test Engineer on the Quality Management team. In this role, your primary responsibility is to perform and report on various types of tests including functional, integration, system, regression and/or performance as well as recommend analytical and technical testing techniques and provide software testing information upon which management can make informed quality decisions about an application under test. The Software Test Engineer evaluates software performance and current test methodologies, recommending process improvements and translates functional and technical requirements into comprehensive test scripts along with maintaining and executing test scripts, and verifying test results. This role is responsible for maintaining defects and collaborating with development staff to resolve issues.
Additional Responsibilities
• Manual testing versus the creation and execution of automated tests
• Organizes and performs various types of testing to include functional, integration, system, regression, Section 508 compliance, and/or performance
• Designs, maintains, and executes manual and/or automated test scripts related to functional, integration, system, regression and/or performance testing
• Manages defects by recording, reporting, analyzing, and tracking defects to resolution
• Identifies and documents testing strategies and approaches
• Consults with development teams to identify, reproduce, resolve and retest defects
• Performs database queries and verifies data results
• Recommends and implements process improvement practices
• Designs and maintains testing process documentation, plans, and strategies
• Analyzes testing processes and identifies opportunities for improvement
• Performs test data analysis and drives the setup and verification of test data
• Provides assistance to the test automation process
• Participates in requirements gathering sessions and converts requirements into comprehensive test scripts
• Plans and estimates testing efforts in collaboration with project management
• Provides testing status information to management
Education/Requirements/Technical Competencies
• 4+ years experience with software testing or 4 year college degree (preferably computer software related) (required)
• 2+ years experience with software testing (required)
• Knowledge and experience using various testing tools that include but are not limited to: Quality Center (required), Quick Test Pro, WinRunner, AccVerify, and/or Loadrunner
• Knowledge and experience with SDLC (strongly preferred)
• Experience developing and executing test cases (required)
• Experience with testing batch processes (strongly preferred)
• Experience with relational databases and writing SQL queries (required)
• Must demonstrate knowledge of fundamental testing principles, concepts and techniques and have experience recording defects in defect tracking software (required)
• Working knowledge of current environments and platforms (preferred)
• Experience evaluating and recommending testing tools and techniques. Perform the administration of testing tools (required)
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, and customer service skills (required)
• Detail oriented and strong verbal and written communication skills (required)
• Strong team player and self starter (required).
• May require occasional extended hours for testing new systems, problem resolution, and completion of priority projects (required)
• May require occasional overnight travel for participation in requirements gathering sessions or development planning sessions (required)
